Our Story
The Andes-Straley Story
Our practice was established in 1947 as Young-Andes Veterinary Hospital by Dr. Tyler Young and Dr. Gerald Andes on Fort Henry Drive. Dr. James (Andy) Straley grew up in Kingsport and after graduating from Iowa State University Veterinary College and a short stint in Newport, Tennessee, he returned ‘home’ to join the practice in 1969. After Dr. Young’s retirement in 1971, the practice was renamed Andes-Straley Veterinary Hospital. Then in 1973, the practice relocated to its present site on Memorial Boulevard. After graduating from UT’s College of Veterinary Medicine and practicing for a few years in Knoxville, Dr. Gary Andes joined the practice in 1981, and, upon his dad’s retirement, assumed partnership role in the practice. The expanded physical plant was put into operation in early 2009.
We remain dedicated to serving Kingsport-area citizens and their pets by providing high quality and compassionate veterinary service, a clean and comfortable place for the pets to stay while the owners are away, and grooming services for those who so desire. If you are looking for a Kingsport vet, look no further than the office of Andes-Straley!
