COVID-19 Updates

In Andes-Straley Services, Andes-Straley Veterinary Hospital

As we all know, COVID-19 is taking the globe by storm. In recent weeks, it made its way to the United States. Since then, every state has handled the situation a bit differently. The state of Tennessee has been asked to “do your part, stay apart” by Governor Bill Lee. In the midst of all the chaos, we want our patients and owners to know Andes-Straley is still here for you.

Andes-Straley COVID-19 Updates

We know that emergencies can happen with your pet. Andes-Straley is still here to help. We ask that only one person accompany their pet to the vet. In addition, we are asking owners to remain seated in the lobby during the appointment time. We want to make sure we are limiting the number of people allowed in the office to keep you, your family, and our staff safe. This is an extremely difficult time, but your pet’s health is still our number one priority!

COVID-19 Animal Myths

A common myth stirring around social media and online is that animals can catch or give Coronavirus to their human companies. As a result, people were dropping off their family pets at local animal shelters to protect themselves. This is a myth! The World Health Organization (WHO) has made multiple statements clearing the myth that animals spread COVID-19 to their owners. Here is a more recent statement from WHO.

“While there has been one instance of a dog being infected in Hong Kong, to date, there is no evidence that a dog, cat or any pet can transmit COVID-19. COVID-19 mainly spreads through droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks. To protect yourself, clean your hands frequently and thoroughly.”

Plain and simple, you can continue to treat your animal the same as any other time, just continue to practice thorough handwashing.
