Protect Your Pet this Fall
When the leaves start to change colors, it’s time to get excited for cozy weather and the upcoming holidays. However, a new season brings new dangers for your cute pets. From allergies to Halloween candy, it is important to stay informed on what could possibly harm them. We have a short list of the most common dangers your pets could face this fall and how to protect your pet this fall!
As the weather gets colder, Antifreeze is essential for car maintenance! However, this is highly poisonous for cats and dogs. One to two tablespoons is enough to kill a small cat, and three is enough to kill medium-sized dogs. Be sure to keep them away from any containers of this toxic chemical. Fall also brings in mushrooms and other harmful plants. All mushrooms are toxic to dogs, so make sure to keep an eye out when they are walking around outside. Ragweed and mold are also more common in the fall and can cause severe allergies for your pets. Keep an eye out for sneezing, itching, redness, and hives.
Fall also brings two big holidays, Thanksgiving and Halloween. Make sure to keep your pet away from any harmful decorations that could easily be digested. Halloween candy of any kind is not safe for cats or dogs. Be cautious when storing it, and keep an eye out for wrappers as well, as they are a choking hazard. Thanksgiving food can be safe in careful moderation. Be sure to research what foods are toxic and which are okay to give your pet a few small bites.
Finally, the weather is something to be mindful of as it gets cooler. If you are cold outside, there is a good chance your pet is chilly too. Make sure not to leave them outside for long durations and supervise them on long walks for signs of hypothermia/frostbite. For a fun way to keep your pets safe, get them a cute sweater and some boots to protect their paws.
